PREFIXES

Members must register any Prefix they wish to use. All applications must be made to the D.P.S. Registration Secretary and all prefixes are registered with The British Central Prefix Register. Two-word prefixes are no longer acceptable, and members are asked to choose names or “made-up” words to avoid confusion. No apostrophe “S” allowed, and only S allowed on prefix when first registered.

If you wish to check the availability of any name to be used as a Prefix before sending it in to the Society, why not go on to the Central Prefix Register site at www.centralprefixregister.com to find out.

Please complete and send to the Dartmoor Pony Society, Swn Yr Afon, Thornhill Road, Cwmgwili, SA14 6PT.

The cost of registering a prefix with the Dartmoor Pony Society is a one off cost, for life, of £80.00, which should be sent to the Dartmoor Pony Society Office together with the completed downloaded form. The cost for non members is £160.00.

Once the Prefix has been registered you will be able to register any ponies you breed with this Prefix in-front of the ponies name. It cannot be added to any pre-existing ponies name if the pony has already been registered. Only the person in whose name the Prefix is registered can use the Prefix. Please also remember that if you wish your Stud name to continue after your have retired, or you wish your family to continue with your Stud name, their names must be officially registered with the Central Prefix Register through the Dartmoor Pony Society – there is a charge for addition of names on to a Prefix.

If you have a registered Prefix which you wish to extend for use with the Dartmoor Pony Society, you will need to fill in the appropriate section on the downloaded form. The cost for this, if allowed, is £20.00. You need to apply for extensions directly through the Secretary of the Central Prefix Register.
